A graduate of Harvard College and Yale School of Medicine, he’s board-certified in internal medicine and an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine. He serves as an independent director for STERIS plc, as trustee for The John A. Hartford Foundation, as senior fellow of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, and as a member of the HHS Secretary's Advisory Committee on National Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Objectives for 2030. He’s also the chief medical officer of the digital health company, Sharecare. Previously, he served as chief operating officer for Kaiser Permanente in Southern California and as health commissioner of New York State.
